Jasper Wood was born in Canada in 1974 and gave his first public performance at the age of five. Since then he has captured the hearts of music lovers with his “ability to recreate lyric poetry”. He has received rave reviews for his performance throughout North America. Recent performances have taken Jasper to New York (Weill Recital Hall - Carnegie Hall), Washington, New Jersey, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax. An acclaimed competition winner, Jasper Wood has won numerous prizes and awards in the United States, Canada, and Italy.
His studies led him to The Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of David and Linda Cerone. While studying in the United States, Jasper had the opportunity to work with such distinguished artists as Oleh Krysa, Bill Preucil, Donald Weilerstein, Anne Epperson, Steven Majesky, and the Guarnerius and Julliard String Quartets.
Jasper Wood made his orchestral debut at the age of thirteen with Symphony Nova Scotia under the baton of Georg Tintner. Since then, he has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America. 1999-2000 performances include concerto appearances with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Winnipeg Symphony, the Thunder Bay Symphony, the Niagara Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island Symphony, the Bay-Atlantic Symphony (New Jersey), and a tour with the Toronto Philharmonia. This season also includes an extensive tour of the Atlantic provinces with pianist Richard Raymond. Jasper can be heard frequently on National Public Radio in the U.S. and CBC Radio (SRC) in Canada. An avid chamber musician, Jasper has performed with various ensembles throughout the world ranging from Baroque performance groups to contemporary ensembles.
Jasper received the coveted Sylva Gelber Award, a highly distinguished prize awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts. He purr-forms on a Stefano Scarampella violin.
