Another multiple winner was Asia & Nu Gruv, the R&B octet named as best R&B group and best live performance, the latter of which was proven by a tight version of soul classic Cheryl Lynn’s Got to Be Real, with singer Asia adding fresh rhymes to the ’70s staple. "This feels really good right now," said an excited Asia after the awards show. "We’ve worked so hard to get this band to where it is, and this lets us know it’s paying off." "It’s good to know we have this kind of support," added Nu Gruv’s Nathan Symonds, who plans to have a CD released over the next year. "I think the crowd who was there was a bit shocked, that the evening they had purchased tickets for maybe wasn't what they had expected. But once the big band got fired up, it was hard not to dance, even if you happened to be on crutches." Halifamous Music Forum

Tonight I saw Chosen Few and NuGruv. Chosen Few were great. They lived up to all the hype I heard from Ash and they were better then I had expected. Nugruv were amazing as well. Asia killed the vocals! I missed their opening act but I couldn't tear myself away from their encore. The band was really good and Asia was amazing. For those of you who have missed either of these groups in the past few weeks, get out there! I didn’t see many people i knew there tonight so hit either of these groups up at their next show. You won’t be disappointed.

WOW. You all know how I feel about The Chosen Few, they doing it big. But NuGruv blew me away. I can’t lie, I didn’t have the highest expectations of you for reasons I can’t even really put my finger on, it might even be as simple as the posters posted. But man was I turned around. I will drop a better review later because I gotta get ready to see A Trak because I missed him last night, but trust in the fact that you NEED to see these dudes and one babe do their thing. Don’t wear steal toed boots because your toes will be tapping. Even had me calling people on the phone, saying, "you gotta hear this" then holding the phone out.
