"Ranging from hoedowns to jazzy bluegrass and ending with a klezmer-style
Bulgarian groove tune, which had the audience shouting with unbridled
enthusiasm, Stobbe, Simm and Holmes created the first major mayhem of the
evening." (at the Lunenburg Folk Festival) - Stephen Pedersen, the Halifax Mail
Star
About Gordon Stobbe's recordings:
"The 14 tunes and medleys on this CD "New Traditions" are all Stobbe originals,
but they are soaked in a United Nation of traditions." - Stephen Pedersen, the
Sunday Herald
"Stobbe's playing, whether exuberant or restrained, is fine enough in itself,
but what makes the album "New Traditions" especially noteworthy are the
distinctive tunes. They stand out one from the other, and a few of them, such
as "Time Goes By," are instantly memorable." - Dirty Linen Magazine
"With his rich tone and playful personal style, Stobbe is like the Jacques
Cousteau of Canadian fiddling, exploring every nook and cranny of a sound that
runs briskly through our cultural veins." - Steven Cooke, the Halifax Mail Star
"Canadian Old-Time Fiddle Hits Volume 1" is like a fast train of musical
delights speeding across the horizons of your hearing. The ultimate traditional
fiddle album" - Gerry Taylor, The Telegraph Journal in Saint John, N.B.
