Salsa Picante

Salsa Picante is the only Afro-Cuban band in Atlantic Canada. Since it's inception in 1991, this eleven piece ensemble has been heating up the concert and dance halls across the region.

The band plays a whole range of Afro-Caribbean music, from traditional rumba to son, merengue, cha cha cha, plena, songo and even soca. This is just the right mix to keep the dance floor pulsating from start to finish. They are a favorite in in the Atlantic Canadian festival circuit , local night club scene and numerous public dances. They have shared the stage with such well known latin artists as "Bobby Sanabria" and "Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana". Recently, Salsa Picante has been described by The Halifax Herald as "Halifax's number one party band" and for a city that has a well known reputation as a party town (four universities and the navy certainly contribute), that's saying something!

The band successfully walks that tightrope of keeping the audience entertained and maintaining the integrity of the music. This is made possible by the quality of the musicians themselves. The members of Salsa Picante are the creme de la creme of the east coast music scene, each one being a well respected soloist, freelance and recording artist in their own right. All are residents of Halifax but originate from all over the Maritimes as well as Cuba, Mexico and Holland.

The following music samples from Salsa Picante are available:  Workers' Hand, Contigo and Streets of My Hometown.
