Latin Groove
Latin Groove is Halifax's newest Latin dance band. The band was put together by Jeff Goodspeed (Halifax) and Silvio Pupo (Holguin Cuba). The two have been working together since meeting in 1998 when Pupo moved to Halifax but it was not until Lisa Lindo moved to Halifax from Toronto that all of the necessary ingredients for a salsa band fell into place.

Born in Holguin Cuba, Silvio Pupo studied music at the Music School starting at age 10. After graduating from music school he spent 2 years in the military and then completed his studies to become a piano teacher in Cuba. He taught for 2 years before joining his first professional band which started his 5 year career of playing various venues in Cuba which included Guardalavaca, Santiago de Cuba and Havana. During this time he began to study jazz and now he uses his incredible technique with the maturity of a much older player. |

Lisa Lindo has just recently decided to make her home in Halifax, but many CBC listeners will recognize her as a regular singer with Stuart MacLean's Vinyl Café. Lisa grew up in Toronto in a Jamaican family and was a voice major at U of T. Perhaps that is why she is so comfortable performing so many different styles of music. She loves to sing the Latin tunes though. Whether it be Salsa, Reggae, Meringue or ChaChaCha Lisa is a pro and always reaches out to the audience. She is light and full of fun, sings with energy and excitement yet with the expertise of the classically trained vocalist that she is. |
